Face of the Family: Patricia Vijzelaar

At Dekker Chrysanten in Hensbroek, we work with over 170 enthusiastic professionals. In our monthly column, “Face of the Family,” we introduce one of our colleagues, offering a behind-the-scenes look at our family-owned company. This month, we spoke with Patricia Vijzelaar, a familiar face in the HR department.

Meet Patricia Vijzelaar

Patricia has been happily working at Dekker Chrysanten for five years. As a Personnel and Payroll Administration Officer, she ensures everything runs smoothly for the staff. “I live nearby, so when I saw an opening in my field, I applied immediately. I’ve never regretted it,” Patricia shares with a smile. “Although Dekker is a large company, it feels very personal. You get to know almost everyone, which makes working here especially enjoyable.”

A Close-Knit Team

In the HR department, Patricia works closely with her colleague Pauline. “We’re a small team of two, which means we’re very attuned to each other. People can easily drop by with questions or comments, which makes our work accessible,” Patricia explains. With her enthusiasm, she makes sure everyone feels welcome. “It’s important for people to feel safe asking their questions. This promotes good communication and a pleasant working environment.”

Varied Workdays

Patricia’s workday is never the same. “One day, I’m drafting contracts; the next, unexpected questions come up that need a quick solution. That’s what makes the job so enjoyable!” She loves setting up everything for new employees, from contracts to workspaces. “It’s satisfying when someone can start without a hitch and feels welcome right away.”

Patricia isn’t only there for new hires; she’s also available to answer questions from current staff. “My role is very diverse. I process payroll, support training programs, and answer questions about the collective labor agreement, internal policies, the time registration system, vacation days, sick leave, and so on. Sometimes I plan my day, but then an urgent request comes along that takes priority. That variety is what keeps the work interesting.”

The Best Part of Her Job

What Patricia enjoys most is helping her colleagues and ensuring everything is well-organized. “I especially enjoy welcoming new employees. You make sure everything is ready, like their contract, system access, and other essentials for their onboarding. That whole process is important so that someone feels welcome and can start off on the right foot.”

Patricia also plays a key role when employees leave. “It’s just as important to me that departing employees have a good farewell and that everything is neatly wrapped up.”

Proud of Smooth Transitions

One of Patricia’s highlights was the transition to a new payroll system. “We switched to a completely new system last year, which involved a lot of work. But we managed it without any issues, and I’m quite proud of that. For the employees, it was a seamless transition, and that’s what ultimately matters to us.”

Working for a Personal Employer

Patricia experiences Dekker Chrysanten as a warm and approachable employer. “It’s a large company, but it feels small. That’s because you know almost everyone, and there’s an open atmosphere. You can always drop in with questions or comments, and the interaction with colleagues makes it a great place to work.”

Close Collaboration

Working at Dekker Chrysanten means being part of a close-knit team. “With just the two of us, we handle everything in HR, from onboarding to offboarding and everything in between. That makes the work versatile and educational. You get a lot of responsibility and are involved in everything. That gives me a lot of satisfaction.”
