Trade Talk: Flowerportal

The world of the flower trade is colourful and dynamic. Every day, countless companies ensure that flowers from all over the world reach the right destination. In our “Trade Talk” section, we highlight one of these players each time. This time, Flowerportal is in the spotlight, taking us into the versatile world of the chrysanthemum variety ResQ.

Flexibility as a Strength

Since June 2023, Petia has been working at Flowerportal, where she handles both purchasing and sales. With an international client base and a sharp eye for assortment development, she ensures that the offering remains unique and attractive at all times.

“Within our company, there is no strict separation between purchasing and sales. Everyone does a bit of everything. That makes us flexible and allows us to respond quickly to the market.”

Her work spans from Bulgaria to Ukraine, and she steps in wherever needed to support colleagues in other markets.

ResQ: A Strong First Impression

The first encounter with ResQ left a lasting impression. “When I first saw the variety, I thought: wow. I was immediately drawn especially to the dark type.”

What sets ResQ apart? According to Petia, its strength lies in its well-structured bloom. “The florets are tightly and beautifully formed, and the green centre really completes the flower.” In addition, the variety has proven to be highly versatile: “It works perfectly in mixed bouquets, but is also sold as a single stem or used for displays and decorative arrangements.”

The ResQ family is currently grown by CornelisJan Flowers and is available in six colours. In the modern 6.5-hectare greenhouse, both ResQ and Altaj are produced using the latest cultivation techniques. Innovation and sustainability are central to this approach, with a clear focus on future-proof production.

ResQ further distinguishes itself through consistent quality, strong stems, excellent vase life, and good transportability. In addition, the genetic base of the family provides strong resistance across all colour varieties.

Thanks to this combination of sustainability, uniformity, and commercial reliability, ResQ positions itself as a forward-looking variety that meets the demands of growers, traders, and florists alike.

Differences by Market

The popularity of ResQ varies by country. In Kyrgyzstan, the variety is rapidly gaining ground, while in Bulgaria preferences still tend to lean towards more traditional, daisy-like types. “There, you sometimes really have to help customers get used to it. This flower is different, but that is exactly what makes it interesting.”

Colour and Seasonal Influence

The deep colour of ResQ is an important asset. “It is perfect for spring and summer, but in fact it fits any season.” Although there are some slight seasonal preferences, the flower remains relevant all year round. ResQ also performs strongly during peak moments such as International Women’s Day. “During Women’s Day, sales really took off. That shows it has strong commercial appeal.”

Reliability and Availability

For the trade, continuity is essential, and in that respect ResQ does not disappoint. “Availability is good. Only once have I had to request additional supply.” This reliability makes the variety attractive for wholesalers who depend on a consistent supply.

Commercial Opportunities

According to Petia, ResQ’s commercial strength lies in the combination of appearance and quality. “It is a strong, healthy flower that sells well. If wholesalers pick it up, consumers will naturally follow.”

She also sees growth opportunities in expanding the assortment. “If more colours are added, it becomes even more interesting. Customers will have more choice and can combine more easily.”

Growth Through Promotion

According to Petia, a successful market introduction requires targeted promotion. “It is important that customers become familiar with the flower. Once they are convinced of ResQ, they are also open to new varieties.”

With this approach, Flowerportal sees strong opportunities to further develop the variety across different markets.
