Corporate social responsibility
We believe that it is important to maintain a leading position in our sector, but that we do so in a way that is in harmony with nature. At all our production locations we strive to continuously reduce the energy consumption per chrysanthemum produced by selecting modern, well-insulated greenhouses, and innovative energy-saving techniques. By producing in Tanzania, we also profit from a climate that is optimal for production without the need for heating systems. Furthermore, we use water sparingly and reuse fertilizers.
Reducing the use of plant protection products
The use of chemical crop protection products has already declined significantly in chrysanthemum cultivation in recent years due to the rise of biological control, and Dekker Chrysanten is at the forefront of this development. IPM—integrated pest management—is now the standard. Dekker Chrysanten is also working on further possibilities to reduce the use of chemical agents even more. Disease resistance is therefore an important part of breeding. Innovative marker technology enables us to assess the resistance of a new variety to diseases and pests at an early stage in the breeding process.
People
We also apply the concept of corporate social responsibility to our employees. This means that we create safe working conditions, offer everyone equal opportunities for self-development, and give people the responsibility that they deserve. Not only do we do this in the Netherlands, but we also do so at all our international locations.
We support local communities by creating jobs and by promoting education through sponsoring much-needed materials and services. Doing business in an honest and fair way is another aspect that defines our corporate social responsibility. This approach ensures that our trading partners and Dekker Chrysanten both get the best out of business.
