GenNovation was set up by four ornamental breeding companies (Anthura, Florensis, Dekker Chrysanten and Gebr. Vletter & Den Haan) to strengthen their research efforts. This is done by collaborating on projects and the implementation of new technologies in their breeding programs. All companies are important players in their own specialist crops; their aim is to create the best products for their customers. The Bioinformatician will work at the location in Wageningen, the heart of Dutch breeding technology.
As Bioinformatician, you have the skills to process and analyze next-generation sequencing information (genomic data, RNAseq data), and are responsible for writing the scripts for relevant filtering. Furthermore, you will develop pipelines, including user interfaces, work on data visualization, optimize workflows and store the data in a correct way. Besides being a programmer, you will work in close collaboration with the molecular biologist to gain insight into what is required and will report the results back to the molecular biologist and breeding.
You are familiar with software development, data analysis and pipeline development. You have the drive to dig into complex data-sets and the ability to persevere until you find answers. You monitor and stay up to date on new developments in the field of sequencing and bioinformatics.
To sum up, you have
- Science degree in bio-informatics or BSc with working experience.
- Knowledge and experience of software development, programming, R and Linux
- Comprehensive knowledge and interest in plant biology
- Basic database knowledge
- Experience with statistical analysis is a plus
