Face of the family: José Glas
At Dekker Chrysanten in Hensbroek we work with more than 170 professionals. In Face of the Family, we portray one of these professionals every month. Based on various questions, we would like to introduce you to our colleagues and gain insight into the multiple functions within the family business. This month we asked our questions to José Glas, who works in our laboratory.

José is one of the most loyal employees here at Dekker Chrysanten, where she has been working in the tissue culture laboratory for 25 years in a row. On a daily base, José is busy with plant growth in a tissue culture laboratory under strict and sterile conditions. José is responsible for maintaining and deploying the tissue culture plants. These are solely varieties that the breeders find important to keep in our so-called "gene bank". Once in a while, these plants must be put on fresh nutrient mediums. José makes all the breeding grounds for this herself. José ensures that the cutting is prepared, disinfected, and furthermore makes sure it is all perfectly deployed for shipments to foreign countries such as Australia, and Colombia.

While working for Dekker Chrysanten, José has experienced many innovations. She started in a small laboratory, where there was only room for an airflow cabinet (a cabinet to work sterile) and a desk/shelf. "All I had to do was turn my chair around to get from my desk to my airflow cabinet." This quickly became too small, and the lab was exchanged for a much larger one. Dekker continued to innovate, so in 2011, the laboratory moved to an entirely new building, offering much more room and state-of-the art equipment to José.

To the question 'what do you like most about your work', José immediately answers with: 'everything'. According to her, this is because she works in a fun and dynamic working environment with a manager who is always involved. 'Everything is fun and especially the different activities such as making, thinking, and developing. But also keeping track of-, and deploying the tissue culture plants. Lastly, but certainly important too, José also experienced many company parties over the years. These are memories she won't soon forget.
